History

1760's-1780's: Immigration to the Pittsburgh region begins. The praetermundus is quite dangerous, and most pockets are populated with wild animals or dangerous creatures. Praetermundanes are in constant danger.

1782: Mutual defense pact signed by Houses Angleterre, Somerset, Enfield, Vester, and Creoda.

1790's: The core of modern New Dunston is mostly safe, and residents are beginning to feud with each other for prized territory rather than trying to clear new territory.

1794: The mutual defense pact is expanded into a full alliance, the Peerage, consisting of the five signatories of the pact plus the Shawnee.

1799-1804: The Peerage fights a war with Upper Johnstown.

1800's-1810's: Flush from their victory over Upper Johnstown, The Peerage, several times as large as any other group in the area, pressures other groups to accept their rule in exchange for safety (both from the Peerage and from other groups). House Donnelly (1805), the Weaponsmiths (1811), and the Businessman's Club (1821) are the most significant.

1818: Most of the other group in the city, led by several mercantile groups, form The Pittsburgh Trade Union as a counterweight to the power of the Peerage. The founding members are the Coal Barons (now the Steel Barons), the Gaslight Guild, the Post (now the New Dunston Post Office), the Union of Workers (now the Dabrowski Initiative), the Coalition of Tradesmen, the Builder's Association of New Dunston, the Order of the Silver Oak, House Slattery, and the Bergmann Family. As part of the agreement, the members divvy up monopolies on most of the key goods they trade in.

1820's: Growing tension between the Peerage and other groups both inside and outside of New Dunston. From 1826-1828, the Weaponsmiths fight to leave the Peerage and join the Trade Union; in 1928, Upper Johnstown attacks the Peerage again, forcing them to accede to the Weaponsmith's demands to focus on the new attack.

1820's-1880's: With the Peerage distracted and weakened by the long war with Upper Johnstown, the Trade Union prospers. New Dunston is now populous enough that attacks from wild creatures are no longer a serious concern.

1855: The beleaguered Peerage finally signs an agreement with Upper Johnstown, ending the war.

1863: House Vester destroyed

1889: The great flood happens in Johnstown. The Steel Barons, which previously had branches in both cities closes its Johnstown operation and all members move to Pittsburgh.

1892: The Bergmann Family abruptly picks up and leaves the region.

1894: Upper Johnstown attacks the Pittsburgh Trade Union, in retaliation for the Steel Barons supposedly being involved in building a shoddy dam which caused the great flood.

1897: House Donnelly and the Businessman's Club attempt to withdraw from the Peerage.

1899: The Peerage, the Pittsburgh Trade Union, and the rebel subject of the Peerage sign the Tripartite Agreement, establishing the Federated Commonwealth of Western Pennsylvania. The agreement reshapes several factions, converting the Peerage into the Chamber of Lords (and adding the Council of Tradesmen to the empty sixth seat) and the Trade Union into the Chamber of Commons. Also establishes the independent police force and the military.

1908: The Commonwealth wins a decisive victory over Upper Johnstown, ending the war.

1910's-1950's: A period of prosperity and expansion for both Pittsburgh and New Dunston. A number of new factions are formed in this period.

1946: The Chamber of Lords replaces House Enfield with the Steel Barons.

1952: Internal tensions and territorial disputes boil over into a civil war. The sides vary slightly as several factions switch during the course of the war, but the main participants were Enfield, Donnelly, the Businessman's Club, the Dabrowski Initiative, and the Weaponsmiths on one side with the Speakeasy, the Order of the Silver Oak, and the Tinkers on the other. While the Chamber of Lords officially stayed out of it, most supported the Speakeasy/Silver Oak/Tinker side the war to some degree.

1958: The war ends and the current system of territorial challenges is instituted as a concession to the Enfield/Donnelly side.

1982: The Pachek Brigade attempts to expand their territory by direct military conquest. The other factions ally against them and the faction is destroyed.

1960's-2000's: A period of relative decline. No new factions join, and several existing ones shrink significantly.

2002-2006: War with the Lycaons. The war goes very poorly for New Dunston at first. As of 2005, the city has lost control of a significant number of pockets and travel within the city is dangerous. In 2005, the war begins to turn around, and in early 2006, House Bergmann, one of the Lycaons allies, is abruptly admitted to the Commonwealth and turns on the Lycaons. By mid-2006, the Lycaons have lost most of their gains, and accept a treaty allowing them to keep a handful of pockets in exchange for peace.
