Title: Systemic Risk and the Risk Management Paradox

Abstract: As participants in financial markets become more sophisticated in measuring risk and more nimble in responding to it they may, paradoxically, make the system as a whole less stable. This dynamic is evident in a classical bank run and in its contemporary counterparts. In this year's lecture, Glasserman will use this perspective to discuss systemic risk and stabilizing countermeasures, with particular emphasis on tools, old and new, of quantitative finance.
