- Tenure-Track Position in Applied Analysis
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track position, possibly at a senior level, to begin September 1, 2009. The position is in applied analysis, broadly construed, with preference given to areas that complement or strengthen the Department's expertise in nonlinear partial differential equations and the calculus of variations. Preference will be given to candidates who have shown outstanding promise and/or excellent accomplishments in research in the above areas, and are pursuing a vigorous research program including major contributions beyond the doctoral dissertation. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, list of publications, a statement describing current and planned research, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to: Applied Analysis Appointments Committee, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. The deadline for applications is January 18, 2009. Review of applications will start on October 25, 2008, although all applications received on or before the deadline will be considered. The Department of Mathematical Sciences is committed to increasing the number of women and minority faculty. Carnegie Mellon University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages applications from women and minorities.
- Tenure-Track Position in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization
The Department of Mathematical Sciences expects to make a tenure-track appointment beginning September 2009. Applicants should be able to teach in the inter-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ACO/) and contribute to the Department's research program in this area. Applicants should send a vita, list of publications, a statement describing current and planned research, and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to: ACO Appointments, Department of Mathematical Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. ICTI CMU-Portugal Workshop in Applied Mathematics
The Information and Communication Technologies Institute (ICTI) Program
in Applied Mathematics (http://icti.math.cmu.edu/index.html) offers a
unique international opportunity for educational and research training
in applied mathematics. The program is part of a broad Portuguese
Government sponsored long-term partnership between CMU and several
Portuguese universities (http://www.icti.cmu.edu) with the goal of
stimulating collaborative research and fostering scientific and
technological skills at the highest levels.
The first ICTI CMU-Portugal Workshop will be held on September 11, 2008,
at Department of Mathematics of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon,
Portugal (http://www.math.cmu.edu/cna/icti08). This workshop brings
together CMU and Portuguese partners to identify common research
interests and to develop and enhance joint collaborations. A second goal
is to discuss the initial phase of the implementation of the program and
how to render it sustainable. Prospective PhD students and postdoctoral
fellows are encouraged to join this effort.
- Fellowships for Graduate Studies in Applied Analysis
The Center for Nonlinear Analysis (CNA) in the Department of
Mathematical Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University, has been awarded a
National Science Foundation RTG (Research Training Group) award that
will support US citizens, nationals, and permanent residents who wish to
pursue graduate studies in applied analysis...

CMU-Portugal ICTI Program in Applied Mathematics -- Graduate Fellowships
The ICTI Ph.D. Program in Applied Mathematics offers courses of studies
in Applied Analysis and in Probability, Stochastic Analysis and their
Applications. The students attending the program will study both at
Carnegie Mellon University and at the Mathematics Departments of three
Portuguese institutions: Faculdade de Ciencias / Universidade de Lisboa,
Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia / Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Instituto Superior Tecnico / Universidade Tecnico de Lisboa.
Graduate students in the program are fully funded by the Portuguese
Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and the ICTI.
Ph.D. graduates of the program will earn two doctoral degrees, one from
Carnegie Mellon University and the other from the Portuguese partners
listed above in association.
Interested students should visit http://icti.math.cmu.edu
The deadline for applications is March 31, 2008.
Further inquires should be directed to icti@math.cmu.edu.
