Abstract: Phase separation is an important mechanism in many sciences. We investigate the relation between phase field descriptions on the one hand and sharp interface models on the other. We employ methods from geometric measure theory to derive compactness properties and to obtain a rigorous passage to the limit. We present some applications for example on perturbed Allen-Cahn equations and their convergence to forced mean curvature flow.
