On properness of quasilinear systems on unbounded domains

Abstract

Tools for analyzing the compactness of bounded sequences in Sobolev spaces on unbounded domains are presented, with an emphasis on functions satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions. The main one is a suitable generalization of the decomposition lemma. As an application, a characterization of properness is obtained for nonlinear operators arising in quasilinear systems of second order in divergence form. This is joint work with Markus Lilli (Universität Augsburg).
