Abstract

In this talk, I will report on joint work with B. Bourdin, C. Larsen and J. J. Marigo. I intend to show how the proposed model is a natural extension of the classical (Griffith) theory of brittle fracture, and to discuss its mathematical consistency, zeroing in on the evolution of the cracking process.
