"Variational Solution of Fractional Advection Dispersion Equations "

Abstract

Fractional Advection Dispersion Equations (FADEs) have been used to model some advection dispersion problems whose behavior is not well predicted by the usual advection dispersion equation.

In this presentation, beginning with the definitions of the fractional derivative and fractional integral, we will present the mathematical framework for studying FADEs. Within this framework existence/uniqueness will be shown and error estimates for the finite element approximation presented. Numerical computations will also be given.
