Math Club Seminar Nicholas Hoell University of Toronto Title: Attenuated Tomography Old and New Abstract: We will explore the mathematics of the attenuated ray transform. The problem of recovering an unknown function based on measuring its weighted line integrals arose in medical imaging modalities and is connected to deep open questions in geometry. Some of the techniques used to address this problem involve ideas from harmonic analysis, representation theory, and gauge theory. No background knowledge of these fields or of inverse problems in medical imaging is assumed.
