Title: Gaussian mixtures

Abstract: I shall explain how Gaussian mixtures are used in several extremization problems in probability, information theory and convex geometry. A Gaussian mixture is a random variable which has the same distribution as the product of two random variables: a positive one and a standard Gaussian.

Based on joint work with A. Eskenazis and P. Nayar.
