Tomasz Tkocz Princeton University Title: Gaussian mixtures Abstract: I shall explain how Gaussian mixtures are used in several extremization problems in probability, information theory and convex geometry. A Gaussian mixture is a random variable which has the same distribution as the product of two random variables: a positive one and a standard Gaussian.Based on joint work with A. Eskenazis and P. Nayar. Date: Wednesday, December 7, 2016Time: 5:00 pmLocation: Wean Hall 8220Submitted by: BohmanNote: Refreshments at 4:30 pm, Wean Hall 6220. |
