Title: How to Distinguish a Cylinder from a Moebius Band

Abstract: Which curves on a surface have strip neighborhoods that are (oriented) cylinders and which are (unoriented) Moebius bands? Using physical models and computer graphics illustrations, we proceed to relate folds, intersections, and inflections to central problems in the geometry and topology of surfaces, both smooth and polyhedral.
