Hi, Mike-
I agree that there may very will be a disagreement between what Jason may consider "addressing the problem" and what Alex may consider "Addressing the problem." But, since I'm neither of those gentlemen, I can't really speak to it, and I don't think that anyone else can, either, honestly. Jason may have considered Mike's comments to have as you put it, insight and a sound argument. I can't speak to that or to Alex's opinion on what Jason said. I can't necessarily agree that Alex didn't have time to give Jason's reply a careful scrutiny; that, too, would be pure speculation, as it would be to call this an oversight.
I also can't necessarily assume that, as you put it, the only thing Jason is guilty of is doing his job. If one considers it sufficient to hand things off to a Coord, then perhaps- but that's a judgment call... assuming that Alex even knew about that. I just don't know that, and I don't think it's right to make those statements without full knowledge. I don't think that it's fair to say that Jason was punished solely for fulfilling the duties of his position, for the same reason.
One thing I do know is that it is not correct to characterize Charles' support for Alex as a rubber stamp. Charles does not take such matters lightly, especially given the situation here, and I cannot in good conscience let the characterization that no neutral third party looked this over stand. I don't mean to be contrary here, Mike, but this part is something that I can say is incorrect.
If that erodes the members' confidence in White Wolf, or in the Global level (or, for that matter, the National or Regional levels), then I'd encourage those members who feel that way to take it up to that level- but the decision was made with the understanding that there would be members who were unhappy with this decision, who would likely rail against it (and I've been pleased with the level of courtesy on this list, by the way), and who might confront Alex, Charles, or both.
Other than that, I believe that anything we might say about what Alex considers to be appropriate handling of this sort of problem would be putting words into his mouth.
Thanks-
