Stanley Bain, Arizona State University, Wave Equation.
Hi, welcome to Stanley Bain Jr.'s little corner of the CNA webpage. Currently I am a senior attending Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona (Site of Superbowl XXX, I think we did a good job). I grew up in Indian Wells, a very small town located on the Navajo Nation. Over the past three years I have worked with two programs while taking classes. ASU's Math and Science Program and St. Peter's Indian Mission School's Afterschool Program have been very beneficial to me. As a Mathematics major these programs have provided an excellent background. All my life I wanted to make a difference in somebody's life. It wasn't till I met my high school Calculas teacher, Mr. Hurst, that I chose mathematics to do that. Working with differential equations and its applications are of great interest to me. Aaron Diaz's project on slat diffusion also grabbed my interest.
The CNA program was a good learning experience even though the work load was heavy. Not only did I get a sense of what graduate school would be like, but I recieved first hand experience of working with professors in mathematical research. And as iciing on the top I meet 12 other very intelligent, interesting, and complex individuals from other universities/colleges around the country.

Bernadette Graham, Spelman College, Wave Equation.
Well as you know my name is Bernadette Graham. I will be a junior in the fall of 1996, at Spelman College which is located in Atlanta, Georgia. I am from San Antonio, Texas, and some of my favorite math topics deal with derivatives, integrals, and vectors. So as you can see I am a calculus girl at heart.
This program has taught me not only new math skills, but it has also helped me cope with some of the fears that I had. Like for instance, I'm from the South and I was nervous about coming all the way to Pittsburgh because I thought that maybe I would just be homesick. I was also afraid of the unknown because I didn't know what to expect. Now that I think about it, I have had a tremendous time while I've been here and everyone has made me feel at home. I almost feel like crying because I have made new friends and a second home.

Cathy Isaac, College of St. Benedict, Finance.
My home is in Waukegan, Illinois, and I go to the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota where I will be a junior in the fall of 1996. I'm a math major, physics/French double minor. Last summer I participated in the Carleton/St. Olaf Colleges Summer Mathematics Program for Women. I have had a wonderful experience at Carnegie Mellon this summer. Not only did we see a lot of math, but we were able to commune with nature from the comfort of our own rooms.

Meike Niederhausen, New College, Finance.
During the 1996-97 academic year I'll be a third year student at New College in Sarasota, Florida concentrating in Mathematics. I'm originally from Germany, but I've spent most of my life in America and currently reside in Boca Raton, Florida. This coming fall semester I will be studying in Budapest, Hungary through the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. Some of my areas of interest within the mathematical sciences include logic, computer science, topology and algebra. Last summer I participated in a part of the Teacher Enhancement Project, which is a NSF sponsored initiative between the Broward County School Board and Florida Atlantic University to educate math/science teachers how to teach about chaos and fractals in the classroom.

Hong Nguyen, Binghamton University, Wave Equation and Finance.
Hi, my name is HONG NGUYEN. I will be a junior in the Fall of 1996 at Binghamton University, New York. Actually, I am a Computer Science major but after participating the Math Research Program at Carnegie Mellon, I find out that Math is really cool. Therefore I decide to pursue double majors(Math and Computer Science) when I come back to school in the Fall.
I am really impressed of great experience this program has given me. I have taught new math skills from Real Analysis and high-level programming language Maple to solve complex problems.
After completing my B.S. degrees, I plan to go to graduate school to continue my education. I'm glad to be in this program which definitely gives me the highly successful educational experience to fulfill my career goals.

Nakia Rimmer, Youngstown State University, Finance.
My name is Nakia Rimmer and I am a mathematics major in my senior year at Youngstown State University. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Applied mathematics is what interests me most. In graduate school I hope to pursue a Ph.D. with a concentration in Mathematical Finance or Numerical Analysis.
What impresses me most about this program is the opportunity to get together with other math majors and research Graduate Schools as well as study for the GRE. I believe that for a math major to be familiar with Maple is a necessity. The CNA REU is ahead of its time by offering a class in Maple.
