TITLE: Library Services for the Mathematician at Carnegie Mellon

Abstract: This talk will provide the Mathematical Sciences graduate student or new faculty member with an in-depth review of library resources and services. As your studies intensify and your work shifts toward the ultimate self-study of your early careers, let's spend some time taking stock of what the library has to offer. Topics covered will include: digital reference works; recommending general literature to others; books as a productivity tool; a comparison of MathSciNet, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science; other helpful databases; using linking technology for e-journal retrieval and efficient Interlibrary Loan; wireless/off-campus access to digital library resources; personal bibliographic management software; helping our collection building efforts; reference service and your liaison librarian. We'll pay special attention to the rapid changes that we've experienced in 2012.
