An introduction to production and operations management that covers both manufacturing and services. The course addresses the history and recent performance of operations management on the one hand and how to solve management problems on the other. It deals with design and planning issues (capacity and location planning, facility layout) as well as operational issues (inventory management, material requirements planning, scheduling, project management). It also discusses such recent developments as computer integrated manufacturing, flexible manufacturing systems, and just-in-time inventory systems.
