Exams: There will be three fifty-minute midterms and a three-hour final. The first two midterms will be during class time on Monday 12 February and Wednesday 7 March; the latter two exams are not yet scheduled. All exams are closed-book: calculators, books, notes and other aids will not be allowed.
Homework: Written homework will be assigned weekly, and due in class on Fridays, starting on 26 January. I may also assign online homework; details of this will be confirmed soon.
Grades: Your final grade will be based on your homework and exam scores, weighted as follows: 15% for homework; 20%, 15% and 10% for your best, second-best and third-best midterm scores respectively; 40% for your final exam.
Collaboration: Working together on homework is permitted — it can be an important aid to understanding material — but if you do so, please (a) report this on your assignment, and (b) write up your solutions separately. Direct copying of homework, like any other cheating or dishonesty, is unacceptable as per the university guidelines, and also to your own disadvantage, since the main purpose of the homework is to give you practice and familiarity with the material.
Anything else: If you have any other questions regarding the course, please email me with 21-121 in the subject line.
