Abstract: We discuss the nonlinear stability of flow of a Navier-Stokes fluid with temperature dependent viscosity through an open parallel-sided channel with constant wall temperatures. Using the energy method of Reynolds and Orr, we obtain a critical value for the Reynolds number below which the flow tends to remain stable under arbitrary disturbances.
