21-260 Differential Equations

Assignments: Week #1

Reading:

Monday: Section 1.1, pp. 1-2; Section 1.3, pp. 19-24.
Wednesday: Section 2.2, all; Section 1.1, pp. 2-7.

  4. a staple.

To help ease any first week textbook issues you may be having, the problems are available as a pdf file.

Note:

For 1.3.30, it is helpful to know that the kinetic energy is

T = (1/2) m v2,
where m is the mass and v is the velocity, and the potential energy is
V = m g h,
where again, m is the mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity and h is the height above the equilibrium point.
