Equilibrium configurations of strained films: existence, regularity, and qualitative properties

Abstract: We consider a variational model of epitaxial growth for strained films. Equilibrium configurations are described by local minimizers of the total energy of the system that is assumed to be the sum of the surface energy of the free profile of the film and the linearized elastic energy. After recalling recent existence and regularity results, we investigate further qualitative properties of solutions, which are physically relevant.
