A little about myself:
A year and a half ago, I left my hometown of Vancouver, Canada and headed eastward. Arriving in Pittsburgh, ready to continue on my journey of learning and job-preparation, I was immediately struck by one thing: How unbelievably hot it is here. Now, Vancouver is a lovely place with the mountains and ocean nearby, and the food, and the nightlife, and so on. But, one thing we also have is a lot of pale skin that blinds all passers-by when the sun comes out. If anything, I think we can say that the Vancouver Rain Festival runs 365 days a year! Well, with a couple days off for good behaviour...

Anyway, after earning a BSc (Hons) and MSc in Applied Math (with stops in Theoretical Physics) from Simon Fraser University, I decided that one more tour of duty was in order. Of all the places I looked at, Carnegie Mellon University was the obvious choice. My MSc thesis was in a gray area between Math and Materials Science, Micromagnetic materials. Carnegie Mellon was the natural choice as two of the people whose work I based mine on were here. The first year was trying at times, but worth it. While taking courses for the first time in over a year, I developed an appetite for Finance and Probability, and have decided to make that one of the focal points of my PhD.

In closing, I can say that I have learned that Rock and Roll is my mistress, although she plays a close second fiddle to my other passion. Before I go, answer me this: DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE $#@^! YOU ARE? YOU IN THE JUNGLE BABY!
