Special programs

We offer a challenging experience in analysis for the best prepared and ambitious entering students. Taught from the traditional Apostol Calculus text, the following two courses replace the traditional science and engineering calculus courses.

21-131 Analysis I
21-132 Analysis II

For Sophomores, we offer the Mathematical Studies sequence to build on the background gained from Analysis I and II. In two challenging, team-taught courses, the student gains the necessary background in multiple variable calculus, linear algebra, advanced calculus, and algebraic structures to move on to graduate courses.

21-235/6 Mathematical Studies I&II

Our Honors Program

This program offers exceptionally talented and ambitious students the opportunity to complete a masters degree in Mathematical Sciences at the same time as their undergraduate degree. It requires taking five graduate mathematics courses and writing a thesis. Nearly all such students have completed Mathematical Studies.

Teaching Opportunity

Some of our most capable undergraduates are offered the opportunity to be teaching assistants for basic courses. This is an excellent opportunity - it not only looks good to graduate schools but teaching others often helps your own learning.

Secondary Certification

Certification to teach mathematics at the secondary level is available through Chatham, a neighboring college.
