Walker, Teaching Professor D.A., Carnegie Mellon University Email: rw1k@andrew.cmu.edu Office: Wean Hall 6219 Phone: 4122682545 Personal web site Research:I am a Teaching Professor and my current responsibilities are teaching first year calculus and advising our Junior and Senior majors. I earned my undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Akron, and my Masters and Doctor of Arts in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon. I was the Associate Head of the Department from 1985 until 2007. In that capacity I developed the Department's calculus placement testing program and presided over the creation of our Discrete Mathematics and Logic and Computational and Applied Mathematics options. In 2004 I won the Carnegie Mellon University Academic Advising Award.
I helped launch the campus in Qatar by providing a math assessment tool for the first class and have taught there for two semesters and three Summers. I am the author of two books, "Introduction to Mathematical Programming", the text
for Models and Methods for Optimization in the Business Adminstration degree program, and "The StoneCech Compactification", an expanded version of my thesis. Selected Publications:
