Will Boney Carnegie Mellon University Title: What is Classification Theory?: Why model theory is better than whatever it is you do Abstract: One of the main focuses of pure model theory is to find dividing lines for theories: stability, simplicity, NIP, etc. Since most of the last sentence didn't make much sense, the goal of this talk is to fix that. I will give a short introduction to basic model theory, a description of what is meant by dividing lines, and an application (sort of) of why this is useful. This will all be done without requiring any prerequisites and while insulting your field of research.
