Jacob Davis Carnegie Melllon University Title: Category theory Abstract: Category theory is a branch of pure mathematics that studies functions in a very abstract setting. We'll define the fundamental concepts of category, functor and natural transformation, and look at a range of examples from other branches of maths and from within category theory itself. I'll also try to give a sense of what doing category theory is like. Date: Tuesday, November 2, 2010 Time: 5:30 pm Location: Wean Hall 8220 Submitted by: Daniel Spector
