Title: Phase transition in a kinetic flocking models

Abstract: Flocking models abound in the recent scientific and mathematical literature. At the particle level, these models are used by scientists to study the behavior of groups of animals, insects, and organisms. Many of these models exhibit a phase transition from a coherently moving "flocking" state to a disorganized "swarming" state as parameters are varied. This transition can be mathematically studied at the kinetic and hydrodynamic levels. Here, we study a kinetic Cucker-Smale-type flocking model with self-propulsion and friction. We analytically show that this model undergoes a phase transition as the parameters vary, and we numerically demonstrate where this phase transition occurs.
