"Transport and dispersion for the Benjamin-Ono equation"

Abstract

Nonlinear dispersive equation often describe the competition of transport and dispersion. I will explain the construction of approximate solutions which display both the transport effect and the dispersion, and which imply ill-posedness in the sense of Bourgain and others, while the dispersion can be used to extend the range of initial data, for which existence and uniqueness can be shown. This is joined work with Nikolay Tzvetkov.
