Dynamic problems in plasticity and related function spaces

Abstract

We will discuss two problems arising in plasticity: one is the classic (microscopic) Frenkel-Kontorova model of dislocation dynamics. Here plastic effects can be captured by heteroclinic travelling waves, and we will show rigorously that these waves exist for past but subsonic velocities (for a special choice of potentials involved). Then we describe a (meso/-macroscopic) rate-independent model that combines plastic effect with the shape memory effect; the discussion will involve a new function space which is a fine extension of the space of bounded deformations.

This is joint work with Carl-Friedrich Kreiner (TU Muncih) and Martin Kruzik (Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague).
